Museums Tour

There are a variety of museums in Rio to cater for all interests. Let our specialized guides, some of them artists themselves, take you to insider places. A wide range of art and culture expects you.

The Chacara do Ceu in Santa Teresa, the Museum of Modern Art, National History Museum, Edson Carneiro Folklore Museum, the Museum of Fine Art, and the Banco do Brasil Exhibition Centre are just a few worth mentioning.

If you do the Corcovado tour privately, ask your guide to take you to The Naif Art museum, less than two dred feet away from the tram station that goes up to Corcovado Mountain. The building, which is listed by the 'Patrimonio Historico Nacional' (the Brazilian National Historic Heritage ), is surrounded by centenarian mango trees; the whole area covers more than 1,000 square feet. The interior was used by painter Eliseu Visconti as his studio at the end of last century.

The MIAN has the world's largest and most complete collection of its kind. There are more than 8,000 paintimgs by artists from all over Brazil and from 130 other countries. The paintings are dated from as early as the 15th century to the present day, providing a historical record of Naive Art in the world.

Moreover, the museum also has the largest Naive canvas the world; it is 23 ft. wide by 13 ft. high. It portrays, with very original naivety, the city of Rio de Janeiro (see picture).

The museum is an accomplishment of the Lucien Finkelstein Foundation, a non-profit entity created on January 30, 1985.
