River Ducking in Casemiro

Ducking is a new sport that was introduced in Brazil in 1995 and since then, it has become a very popular activity.

Basically, it consists on going down river rapids inside a rubberized kayak, called duck. It`s as safe as rafting, but perhaps more challenging and fun.

The best season for this sport is from December through March, when the summer brings a lot of rain and increases the water level.

Unlike rafting, ducking can be practiced during the whole year, thanks to the duck`s light weight, narrower shape and maximum capacity of 02 people.

Casimiro de Abreu is a little town located about 175 km (110 miles) northwest of Rio , surrounded by untouched Atlantic Forest . The secret spot for ducking is the Macaé river, considered to be one of the best in Rio de Janeiro state for this kind of sport. The ride takes about 02 hours and the landscape around the course is awesome.

Characteristics of Macaé river:
Extention: 80 km (50 miles)
Rafting Course: 6,5 km (4 miles)

Rapids Level: 01 to 04
Average Water Temperature: 18º C (65º F)
